Dominic

I lied to Sophie about not knowing how to dance. I’ve done more than my share of dancing in bars and clubs. The problem is, I wanted to avoid getting this close to her tonight. I’m already having a hell of a problem wanting to get close to her, and the way she looks tonight is proving to be my kryptonite.

She looks fucking gorgeous, and that goddamn top she’s wearing is driving me crazy because I can see more than a little cleavage. Standing this close to her, able to smell her sweet scent, with my arms around her and hers around me… it’s unbearable. When I glance down at the spot where her chest is pressed against mine, I get an eyeful of plump curves and enticing shadows, and it’s enough to make me forget my own name.

I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing anymore. I thought this job would be boring and monotonous—you know, babysit a spoiled socialite. But it hasn’t been. I can’t ever remember having this much fun with a woman. And it’s not just the sex—although that’s hot as hell because she’s comfortable with her body and her needs. It’s everything about her. She’s fun, strong-willed, and annoyingly feisty. I find that an irresistible combination.

The sex started off as a way to let off steam, but now it’s changed into something else. I crave her all the time. I feel possessive where she’s concerned, and I don’t know how to handle it. I want her in my bed—permanently. I don’t want to just blow off steam with her. I want to rock her world. I want her to turn to me when she’s feeling needy, or when she’s had a bad dream, or when she finds a spider in the shower.

I want her to turn to me.

I want her to come to me.

I want to keep her safe… especially from my own fucking father.

I think about what will happen when Mikey goes on trial and Shane tells me to bring Sophie back to Chicago to testify. The thought of her returning to Chicago makes my blood run cold, but she has to testify. Once Mikey’s convicted and behind bars, there won’t be any reason for the Alessios to come after Sophie.

But until then, until Mikey’s convicted, they’ll stop at nothing to prevent her from testifying. As long as there’s a chance they can keep her from showing up in court, they’ll do anything. Mikey might be an idiot, but he’s Franco’s heir, and that means something to Franco.

I know it does, because he’s been begging me to join him since I was ten years old.

Technically, I’m his heir because I’m his firstborn son—even if I am a bastard child. That also means something to Franco, but it means jackshit to me.

He’s a criminal, and I’d rather die than join his operation—period. End of story.

The current song ends, quickly melding into another one, also a slow song. Sophie’s pressed up against me, her supple arms around my neck, and her head resting against my shoulder.
